Victims Services

The County of Wetaskiwin FCSS program proudly provides funding to Leduc and District Victim Services and Wetaskiwin and District Victim Services. According to the FCSS guidelines, “volunteer or community development activities and prevention/early intervention programs and services undertaken by a Victim Services Program may be eligible for funding if they are determined to be a priority by a local FCSS board and /or municipal council.” FCSS funding is provided to help with the cost of training volunteers and promoting awareness.

Both Victim Services units exist as a means of aiding and assisting victims of crime and tragedy in partnership with the RCMP. These organizations of volunteers make every effort to ensure victims are not left alone to face overwhelming circumstances.

Role of a Volunteer Advocate
 Victim Services has a variety of volunteer positions including court support, in office out reach and direct crisis intervention.
  • Advocates must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Advocates take turns being on call for five shifts each month.
  • All required training is provided.
  • Choice of shifts, day or night.
  • Minimum 1 year commitment required.
  • Participate in fundraising and public awareness events.
  • Pass and maintain RCMP enhanced security clearance.
  • Work in terms of 2, Safety is foremost.
