COUNTY OF WETASKIWIN NO. 10 - NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO LAND USE BYLAW 2024/66 Data Processing Facility (Data Centre)

Based on current road conditions, forecasted weather, and seasonal trends, the County of Wetaskiwin will be implementing seasonal road ban effective Monday, March 30 at 10:00 a.m. To view the roads affected by the upcoming road ban, please visit: Upcoming Seasonal Road Ban

The County is currently under a haul restriction, which will remain in place until the seasonal road bans come into effect.

These measures are necessary to protect municipal roads during the spring thaw and to maintain safe and reliable infrastructure for all users.

Updates will be shared on the County website and social media channels.

On March 10, 2026, Council approved Fire Services Bylaw 2026/15 following three readings, officially repealing Bylaw 2025/02. The updated bylaw introduces clarified property definitions and reinstates maximum fire protection charge limits—$25,000 for residential properties and $50,000 for farm properties—when landowners meet all bylaw and permit requirements and are not grossly negligent. The County will also engage with Fire Marque, a third-party organization, to help recover eligible fire‑response costs through homeowners’ insurance. In addition, Schedule B has been revised to remove fixed rates and instead use Alberta Transportation’s annually adjusted fire apparatus rates.

All transfer stations will be OPEN during EASTER WEEKEND. The statutory holiday does not affect transfer station hours.

Effective immediately, curbside garbage collection will take place on Fridays in Mulhurst Bay (including Thompson Court, Pigeon Lake Haven, Cameron Highlands, Lakeland Estates) and Curilane Beach. 

Tuesday will no longer be the garbage pickup day for these areas.

Expired paper transfer station cards will no longer be accepted at any County transfer station after April 15, 2026. Residents must apply for a permanent card to access transfer stations after April 15, 2026. Apply online or at the County office.

The County of Wetaskiwin's FCSS is hosting "THE BABYSITTING COURSE"

This course is being hosted by the County of Wetaskiwin FCSS. Public registrations are welcome. 

• Date: March 30
• Location: Wetaskiwin Agricultural Society 
• Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (Lunch not provided. Please bring a bagged lunch.)
• Cost: $20*(Cost will only be subsidized for County Residents. Other registrations will be asked to pay the full price of $75.)

Students must be 12 or turning 12 within 6 months of the date of the course to register. Limited spaces available.

Fire Permits are required from March 1^st to October 31^st each year.

The Community Grant Program provides funding to local organizations that offer programs which are intended to promote and develop a safe and healthy community through preventative measures.

All completed Grant Applications Forms can be submitted to the FCSS email by MARCH 31, 2026. Visit our webpage for more information.

Eligible programs and services

Services provided under FCSS must be preventative and may include initiatives and programs that:

• help communities identify their social needs and develop responses
• promote, encourage and support volunteer work in the community
• inform the public about services
• support children and their families’ social development
• enhance retired and semi-retired people’s quality of life

FCSS funding cannot be used for programs and services that:

• are only focused on an individual’s leisure or recreational needs
• provide an individual or family with basic living supports such as money, food, clothing or shelter
• are only focused on rehabilitation
• duplicate services provided by government or a government agency

BE ADVISED that the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 is imposing a 15 Tonne Weight Restriction on Bridge File 72248, located on RGE RD 255, approximately 300m north of HWY 13.

This restriction will begin immediately and will remain until repairs can be completed due to poor structural integrity. Based on the current condition, the bridge will be temporarily restricted to 15 tonnes.
