Fire Advisory in Effect
Due to unseasonable warm daytime temperatures and wind warnings in the forecast for much of Alberta, the County of Wetaskiwin is implementing a FIRE ADVISORY effective November 6, 2026, at 4:00 P.M.
What is allowed:
Safe wood campfires within fire rings;
Backyard fire pits and burn barrels on private land;
BBQs and Smokers that use solid fuels (wood chips or pellets, charcoal briquettes, etc.);
BBQs and Smokers that use solid fuels (wood chips or pellets, charcoal briquettes, etc.);
Propane, Natural Gas, or Electrically powered cooking, heating, and lighting appliances;
Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches);
Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor;
Pellet fueled appliances;
Fireworks.
Even though Fire Permits are not required at this time of year, the County encourages residents to use extreme caution when burning larger piles and to be mindful of changing weather conditions.
Off-Highway Vehicles can start wildfires – check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available.
Equipment fires or work-related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire and spread easily.
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.
Residents are encouraged to learn and implement effective Fire Smart tips to reduce hazard within their property, acreage, or farm. More information can be found at www.farmfiresmart.ca.
Thank you for your continued efforts in helping keep County of Wetaskiwin residents and communities safe!
