Winter Driving Conditions & Safety

County of Wetaskiwin News Posted on October 23, 2026

Due to today's snowfall and changing road conditions across the region, please use extra caution if you're travelling and check current road conditions before heading out. A little preparation can go a long way.

Here are some reminders for safe winter driving:

  • Winterize your vehicles
  • Carry an emergency road kit
  • Clear all snow and ice from windows, sideview mirrors, headlights, taillights, and license plates
  • Buckle up and adjust head restraints
  • Try to keep your vehicle’s fuel tank more than half full. This helps reduce moisture problems in your fuel system and it adds extra weight to your vehicle.
  • DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY during bad weather: slow down, drive according to the road conditions, and stay off the roads during major storms.
  • Visit 511.alberta.ca for current provincial highway conditions.
