News Release: New Innovative Parking Lot at Twin Lakes

News Release Twin Lakes

The County of Wetaskiwin is excited to announce the completion of a new parking facility at the popular Twin Lakes Campground, addressing long-standing accessibility issues and enhancing visitor experience with cutting-edge technology.

Parking has historically been a challenge at Twin Lakes Campground due to its popularity and sensitive surrounding environment, characterized by a significant depth of peat soils which complicates construction. In response, the County has partnered with Paradox Access Solutions to deploy their innovative Tough Cell technology, a pioneering approach in soil stabilization and load support.

The new parking lot is built atop an impressive nine feet of peat moss. This project not only demonstrates the resilience and versatility of Tough Cell but also underscores the County’s commitment to sustainable development practices. The technology allows for the use of recycled and locally sourced materials, reducing the need for transported aggregate and expediting installation processes.

"Our partnership with Paradox Access Solutions represents a strategic move towards innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions," said Reeve Josh Bishop. "The new parking lot at Twin Lakes Campground will significantly improve access for both residents and visitors, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience at one of our most popular sites."

Tough Cell’s robust reinforcement capabilities are particularly suited to the challenging conditions presented by the Alberta climate, offering durability against all weather conditions, including the extreme cold of winter.

This project enhances Twin Lakes Campground's accessibility and showcases the County's commitment to innovative and environmentally responsible solutions. Building on this, the next steps include developing a trail plan at Twin Lakes to further enhance the area's recreational opportunities.
