Winfield Virtual Gymkhana

Rachel Anderson is a 14-year-old horse enthusiastic from Winfield, Alberta who wants to keep people active with their horse during this unprecedented time. Rachel is the organizer of the Layne Steeves Winfield Gymkhana Club, a horse club in central Alberta with approximately 35 members ranging from young kids to adults. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the club is unable to host their usual Gymkhana events. So Rachel got creative and designed the Winfield Virtual Gymkhana Club. Anyone who wants to participate can do so safely from the comfort of their own home. Rachel wants to show Albertans that they can set up their very own Gymkhana course anywhere: in a field, in their front yard or in an arena. Even with this pandemic people can continue to work on their skills and have fun with their horses.

How does it work?

Participants can choose to compete in barrel racing and/or pole bending. Rachel will provide details of how to set up your very own course at home. Then grab your horse and a family member to video tape and you are ready to compete. Your video is then submitted to Rachel and the winners will be announced the next day and prizes will be mailed out.

Winfield Virtual Gymkhana will be hosting 8 virtual events over the summer to keep you and your horse happy and healthy. Rachel and her horse Barbie look forward to seeing you there.
