[ARCHIVED] Canada Post Strike – Important Information for Residents

Canada Post Strike

As of November 15, 2024, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has initiated a national strike, resulting in a complete shutdown of Canada Post operations. Mail delivery services are suspended until the strike concludes.

County of Wetaskiwin Services

Utility Bills: Utility bills are currently in the mail system. To view your utility information online, sign up for Customer Self Service at Register for My Account Access. This online service allows you to access details about your taxes, assessments, utility bills, balances, and more.

Cheques & Documents: Residents and vendors can pick up cheques and important documents directly at the County office.

Discretionary Development Permit Notices: Due to the ongoing postal strike, we are currently unable to mail Discretionary Development Permit Notices. As a reminder, you can view the list of issued Discretionary Development Permits on our website. Visit the Planning and Development Department Public Notices section for the latest updates.

Pipestone Flyer Update:

To ensure our valued readers continue to receive the Pipestone Flyer, we are increasing circulation in distribution boxes across the County and surrounding areas. As always, you can access notices and advertisements online at pipestoneflyer.ca, where full issues of the paper are also available under the E-Editions section for County residents.

In the meantime, you can pick up a copy of the Pipestone Flyer at the following locations:

Wetaskiwin County:

  • Falun Co-op
  • Petro-Can in The Village at Pigeon Lake
  • Village Market (AG Foods) in The Village at Pigeon Lake
  • Community Billboard in Mulhurst Bay

  • Millet Petro-Can

Wetaskiwin:

Information from Service Canada: Payment Update

To avoid disruptions to Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, or Employment Insurance payments during the strike, clients receiving cheques are encouraged to register for direct deposit by:

  • Visiting a Service Canada Centre.
  • Requesting a callback at eServices.Canada.ca.
  • Calling 1-800-O-Canada (1-800-622-6232)

Please note: Clients needing to update Direct Deposit information for their November pension benefits must call the Pensions call centre (1-800-277-9914) before November 22nd. Visiting Service Canada will trigger a change to your payment method for December, but not for November.
