October 20-26, 2024, marks Small Business Week, and the County of Wetaskiwin, with its economic development partner, Joint Economic Development Initiatives (JEDI), is proud to honor the vital role small businesses play in driving the local economy.
As part of the celebrations, JEDI’s Director of Economic Development, Richard Horncastle, will moderate the Leduc, Nisku and Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on October 22nd. The event will feature a panel of successful business owners from both the County and City of Wetaskiwin, sharing their experiences and insights on overcoming challenges and growing their businesses.
“Here in the County of Wetaskiwin, we are committed to fostering a business-friendly environment,” says Reeve Josh Bishop. “Our ongoing review of the Land Use Bylaw ensures regulations are clear, streamlined, and adaptable to business needs. By simplifying zoning and permitting, we’re reducing barriers, attracting investment, and promoting sustainable development, making it easier for businesses to thrive.”
“As of 2023, small businesses represent 98% of all businesses in Canada, contributing to over 60% of new jobs in the private sector,” says Horncastle. “In the County of Wetaskiwin, we see this impact firsthand, with small businesses driving economic growth and innovation. Our goal is to ensure they continue to thrive by providing the support and resources they need to succeed.”
