Fire Advisory in Effect
A FIRE ADVISORY is now in effect for the County of Wetaskiwin.
Due to the extreme dry weather conditions, it is essential to use caution with any open burning within the County of Wetaskiwin.
Existing fire permits remain valid (subject to suspension or cancellation). New fire permits will continue to be issued.
What is allowed:
• Safe wood campfires within fire rings
• Backyard fire pits and burn barrels on private land
• BBQs and Smokers that use solid fuels (wood chips or pellets, charcoal briquettes, etc.)
• Propane, Natural Gas, or Electrically powered cooking, heating, and lighting appliances
• Open flame oil devices (turkey deep fryers, tiki torches)
• Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor
• Pellet fueled appliances
Off-Highway Vehicles can start wildfires – check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work-related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire and spread easily.
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.
The FIRE ADVISORY will remain in effect until conditions improve.
