On April 11, 2023, County of Wetaskiwin Council provided third and final reading to Bylaw 2023/05 to establish a new Municipal Development Plan (MDP). Over the last two (2) years, the County has worked with Municipal Planning Services to review and update our existing MDP from 2010. A Municipal Development Plan guides long-term land use planning decisions and identifies the preferred future development pattern within a municipality. This MDP establishes goals, objectives and policies for land use and development, municipal infrastructure and services, and the conservation and management of significant, local environmental features.
The County would like to thank members of the public, our business community, and neighbours for providing critical feedback on the draft MDP throughout the review process. Thank you to those who completed our survey, attended the fall open houses, asked questions, and attended the Public Hearing. Public feedback was critical in developing this document to support the MDP’s vision of “The County of Wetaskiwin is a thriving rural municipality. Supporting long-term agricultural viability, economic growth and environmental protection contribute to the County’s resilience and rural character.”
