[ARCHIVED] Message from Reeve Bishop: Planning Documents

News Flash

The County would like to provide clarification as it relates to commentary being spread regarding the County and other municipalities from non-official sources as it relates to Land Use Bylaws and other development considerations. There are no such proposals in consideration at the County of Wetaskiwin as have been suggested relating to Thorhild County.

If you are looking for information about the County, you should always go to the source. Please visit our website or call the office at 780-352-3321. The County Website is the primary source of public notification, and visitors are encouraged to go there for accurate and factual information regarding local land use documents and proposals. The County encourages active participation and communication and has provided a free subscription service under “Stay Informed” on the home page. Please sign-up using Notify Me to receive notifications to your email or phone.

All municipalities are required by legislation to advertise and hold a public hearing for any proposed changes to their respective land use planning bylaws including the Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw. Currently we are reviewing our Municipal Development Plan (MDP). An MDP provides a vision for the long-term planning & economic development of the County of Wetaskiwin for the next ten (10) to twenty (20) years. We held six (6) open houses in the fall of 2022 to gather feedback on our draft MDP. We have gathered all the input and published it within a report entitled What we Heard Report. Taking into consideration the feedback received so far, we have drafted a revised copy and scheduled a final opportunity to provide feedback though a Public Hearing on March 28, 2023, at the County Office. Council Meetings are open to the public and attendance is always encouraged for any affected and interested persons. To view upcoming Council meetings, visit “Agendas & Minutes” on the County Homepage. To view our planning documents use these links: Land Use Bylaw, Current MDP, Proposed MDP

In closing, County of Wetaskiwin Council and Staff remain committed in serving our citizens to the best of our ability through Strong Proactive Leadership and Safe Progressive Communities. If you have any questions or want to discuss your vision for the County, please contact your County Councillor.
