Joint News Release: Residential Solar Installation Grant

Joint News Release Solar Grant (1)

“The Residential Solar Installation Grant Program has reached its maximum number of pre-approved applications, so the intake for new applications is now closed. Any unused funds will be made available at the end of the project completion period and will require an updated grant application. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about future intakes by following the JEDI/County website, social media, and the Pipestone Flyer.”

For Immediate Release – The County of Wetaskiwin, in partnership with Joint Economic Development Initiatives (JEDI), is excited to announce the launch of a new Residential Solar Installation Grant Program aimed at helping County residents reduce their electricity costs through sustainable energy solutions.

Thanks to a generous donation of $187,500 from the John Maude and Susan Quinn Charitable Foundation, this program will provide financial assistance to homeowners seeking to install solar PV systems on their properties. Eligible residents can receive a grant of up to $7,500 to cover the costs of purchasing and installing a minimum 5kW solar PV system.

"We are grateful to the John Maude and Susan Quinn Charitable Foundation for their support in making this initiative possible," said Reeve Josh Bishop. "We're excited this program is available to assist our residents in reducing their electricity costs and enhancing energy efficiency.”

Applications are now open and will be managed by JEDI, the economic development provider for the County. Residents interested in applying must obtain a quote for a solar PV system of at least 5kW and submit their application for pre-approval.

Additional requirements include obtaining necessary development and building permits and passing a final electrical inspection by Superior Safety Codes. The program emphasizes that funds will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis, and applications must be completed within eight months of receiving pre-approval.

For more details on the application process and eligibility criteria, residents can visit the County's website or contact the JEDI office.
