Draft IDP with Clearwater County

  1. An Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) is a statutory document prepared with two (or more) municipalities that share a common border. An IDP ensures future development and land use policy are coordinated between municipalities. Clearwater County and the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 have agreed to jointly engage in an IDP, as per the Municipal Government Act, for the lands located between a 1.6 kilometre (1 mile) boundary on either side of our shared border. If you live in this area, or are interested in this project, you are invited provide your input on the draft IDP.

  3. If you live in this area, or are interested in this project, you are invited to comments on the draft IDP. You can comment on the draft IDP below or you may contact the County office to request a physical copy

  4. Please provide any comments to the County of Wetaskiwin by October 15, 2019. Comments provided will be summarized and the results will be presented to both municipalities. Once the IDP is finalized a notice of public hearing will be sent to all landowners within the plan area two weeks before the hearing. Any members of the public is welcome to attend the public hearing and provide comment.

  6. What is an IDP?

    The IDP is a statutory plan, outlined in the Municipal Government Act (MGA), meant to enhance regional cooperation and collaboration by helping to facilitate efficient and compatible land development. The IDP guides the land use planning decisions of both Counties to reach a mutually desired future for the area. It seeks to establish a clear understanding of each municipality’s long-term planning interests and ways to build upon the positive and mutually beneficial relationship between the two municipalities.

  7. Why is this Plan being developed?

    The Government of Alberta requires that all municipalities that share a common boundary must adopt an IDP by 2020.

  8. Is this Plan related to a specific development project?

    The IDP project has not been triggered by a specific development project. An IDP is a long range planning document that describes how lands along the municipal boundary will be developed in the future. It does not propose any specific development project.

  9. Will the IDP rezone my land?

    No, your land's existing land use district is not affected by the IDP.
