Municipal Emergency Plan

The County of Wetaskiwin has a Municipal Emergency Plan that includes information for emergency situations such as dangerous goods spills, poison control, oil field incidents, severe weather and any other incident which may affect citizens. This plan includes the Hamlets within the County of Wetaskiwin as well as a partnership with the Town of Millet and the City of Wetaskiwin.

Groups Involved

The County of Wetaskiwin has a group of people who would be involved in the event of a major disaster or emergency. This group consists of the Fire Chief, Chief Administrator, Community Peace Officers, Public Works, Social Services, Utilities and so on.

The Municipal Emergency Plan is updated regularly and is updated and distributed to the appropriate departments within the municipality.

Location of the Plan

The Municipal Emergency Plan is located at the County of Wetaskiwin office and copies are distributed to various members within the surrounding community such as the City of Wetaskiwin, the Town of Millet and the hospital.

The Emergency Operations Center is located at the County of Wetaskiwin building which is 1-1/2 miles west of Wetaskiwin on Highway 13.

Major Disaster Operations

In the event of a major disaster or emergency the people involved will meet at the Emergency Operations Center. The team will be advised of the situation and then will provide overall coordination and direction of operations until such time as the situation is under control.

Emergency Definition

An emergency is defined as a critical situation that can be dealt with routinely by the appropriate departments such as RCMP or the Fire Department.

Major Emergency

A major emergency is defined as a critical situation that requires the commitment of all the emergency response resources of the municipality. Call out or standby procedures to the involved people would be initiated.

Disaster

A disaster is a critical situation that has exceeded the emergency response resources of the municipality. The Municipal Council would be assembled and a Local State of Emergency could be declared.
