Development Permits

Development Permit Regulation
All development within the County of Wetaskiwin requires a development permit before work can start, and is regulated by Land Use Bylaw 95/54. Development is defined as:
  1. An excavation or stockpile and the creation of either of them
  2. A building or an addition to or replacement or repair of a building and the construction or placing of any of them in, on, over or under land;
  3. A change of use of land or a building or an act done in relation to land or a building that results in or is likely to result in a change in the use of the land or building
  4. A change in the intensity of use of land or a building or act done in relation to land or a building that results in or is likely to result in a change in the intensity of use of the land or building
All development within 800 metres (1/2 mile) of a primary or secondary highway will require approval from Alberta Transportation.

Development Permit Application

Please submit a development permit application form (PDF) with the following information:

Application Fees

  • $100 Residential (i.e., house, garage, shed)
  • $200 Commercial (i.e. restaurant, mechanic)
  • $200 Industrial (i.e. manufacturing shop, industrial park)
  • $500 Discretionary Recreational Vehicle Use (max 3 years)
  • $100 Permitted Recreational Vehicle Use 
Rural Address Signs
All buildings where people are living or working require a Rural Address sign. The fee for the sign is $150 per sign and the sign will be provided and installed by the County.

Off-Site Levy
The off-site levy by-law requires that new development that has sewage hauled off site for treatment (Mulhurst or Alder Flats Lagoon) be required to pay a one time off-site levy fee in the amount of $2,034.The levy must be paid prior to the issuance of a development permit.
 
Once a development permit has been approved, building, electrical, gas and plumbing permits must be obtained from Superior Safety Codes Inc.
